About Killara Estate Winery
Killara Estate Winery Yarra Valley is run today by the Palazzo Family. The name Killara is an Aboriginal word, it means “always there.” The name was chosen for the estate by David Syme in 1890’s.
Palazzo family purchased the Killara Estate in 1987. It was one of the largest private estates in Yarra Valley. The estate is situated on the banks of the Yarra River at 1200 acres. It has a long history.
In the late 19th century David Mitchell was the owner of the estate. In 1883 David Syme purchased the property. Before that, David was growing orchards on 80 acres, and is apples received the highest prices in London. He made a lot of improvements and later named the property Killara Estate.
Today Leo and Gina Palazzo promote their Yarra Valley Killara Estate Winery, Killara Estate Vineyard and the Racers & Rascals Cafe. The couple has grown their business predominantly by word of mouth and they both are proud of Killara Estate.
